Chronic Total Occlusions

Post-CABG (Open Heart Surgery) Graft Lesions

Post-CABG graft lesions occur when there is narrowing or blockage in the bypass grafts used during coronary artery bypass graft (CABG) surgery. These grafts are used to restore blood flow to the heart muscle by bypassing blocked coronary arteries.

Over time, grafts may develop narrowing due to plaque buildup, blood clots, or degeneration of the graft vessel. This can reduce blood flow to the heart and may lead to chest pain, shortness of breath, or recurrent heart-related symptoms.

Early diagnosis and treatment of graft lesions are important to maintain proper blood supply to the heart and reduce the risk of further cardiac complications.

  • A beam of light directed at the artery gets reflected and scattered.
  • Scattered light causes glare, which OCT filters out.
  • Small amounts of reflected light that do not get scattered can be detected.
  • Used to form the image of the coronary artery.
  • Cardiologists can see a detailed inside view of the artery.
